Finally remembered - here are some pix of that branch - and my "supervisor", who sat no more than a couple feet from me on the old swing :D

Date: 2008-07-27 02:12 pm (UTC)Reminds of the big old apple tree in our garden. One night it broke off right at the base without moving an ounce of soil. We were extremely lucky, because it landed neatly between the neighbour's fence and our shed and only damaged one little branch of our plum tree. At least our friends with fireplaces were happy, they got a lot of wood for nothing...
Btw, what kind of bird is that? Looks a little like blackbird, but not quite. Just curious, 'cause I'm always interested in nature.

Date: 2008-07-27 02:18 pm (UTC)It's a baby robin - all feet and beak :D Young enough to still have a couple bits of fluff on him/her and the spotted breast. Just sat in the swing, staring at me as I was sawing up the branches. Once I saw it, I left so the mama would come. Eventually it flew off into the brush (I kept watching it from the window, in case of cats).
