I was right

I've said that spring was long in coming and Memorial Day has proved it. Every year we make bouquets for our family graves, and the last several years we've had a paltry sum. The spirea blossoms were on their last legs, the tulips long gone, the iris wilting, and the lilacs turning brown. This year, I was hoping that the timing of the warmer weather would mean we'd have more blossoms.
Nope.
It's stayed cold too long. The tulips are just finishing up (a few blossoms still), the spirea and iris are just budding - even the ferns, which we used as background foliage, are barely unfurled. Only the lilacs are in full bloom now. So, I'll be making bouquets of lilac sprigs alone for the more distant relatives, and saving the other blossoms available for my folks' graves.
I keep wondering what happened. When I was a kid, we were able to make huge bouquets.
Sigh...
