Minor rant

Is it just me, or does anyone else hate it when companies we deal with make changes they think are so neat! and force us into them? Like my stupid ISP and it's web hosting fiasco. What ticked me off today is Google's "buzz". I didn't know what it was, to begin with, have only a basic understanding of it after reading through numerous "isn't this great!?" info sites by Google, but frankly, if I want to share something with someone, I know how to do that without some company deciding for me, thank you very much. But mainly I just resent it when these things get added automatically, without giving me a choice or even warning me, and then I have to turn cartwheels to find out how to get rid of it.

I think, frankly, it's the paternalistic attitude that really grinds on my nerves. Too many people, governments, businesses, and entities in general are making decisions on my behalf because they think it will make my life better/easier and most of the time it does just the opposite.

Gawd, am I in a bitchy mood today or what? Cabin fever. Gotta be...

It was kind of annoying that there was a screen about it, that you had to pass to get to your inbox. Why not just a NEW!! BUZZ!! link up in the top right that they usually do for new features.

I've looked at it, but can't see much point in it yet. But I'm still trying to figure out the actual point of Twitter, though I use that, and Facebook, which I don't use.

In general it would be nice to get asked about such things - or to have the option to turn the new features on or off. I don't know about Google Buzz, but Facebook is doing the same currently and changing the start page, so that nobody can find their way around anymore. The worst is that you need twice as much clicks to get somewhere now , it's annoying. And no way to turn it off. I didn't even know about it until people started to bitch about it on the feed.
And you're right, it happens in RL as well, not only in our new and exciting digital world. But there is nothing we can do about it, I'm afraid :-(

There's really only two things to do - one, email the company doing it and ream them a new ass (which I did with Google) and/or quit using that service and switch to another. Unfortunately, the second is often hard to do and not worth the effort of switching things. But when I can - I do! LOL
