I think, with Petey, it's an ownership issue. He'll sleep side by side with Muffin - but when I go to bed, if Muffin takes "his" place beside me instead of her usual, he'll sit on the floor and *cry* rather than take another spot.
Petey is the first dog I've had that was all mine, not just the family pet. I always wanted that - but I'm definitely starting to see the down side now.
