Excuses, Excuses... How to Guarantee Failure as a Writer by Lee Masterson

A couple salient points from this article:

Poor writers make excuses for their work. Good writers revise and polish their words until every point shines.

Refusal to learn about current trends, ignorance of changing requirements and a lack of regard for the advice from already-successful authors will mark you as an amateur.

If you want it enough, you'll sacrifice a few things and create the time to write.

The ability to look at where your story is going wrong and offer advice should be treasured.

Actually it says something similar in the book I'm reading (recommended by JFM) - especially about the "said" word. I think I remember at my English classes that you should avoid using the word, but times have changed so much. And English Teachers aren't published authors or editors ;-)

Yep - I've given up loads of tv that I used to watch - it no longer interests me, except a select few. Rather than sitting in front of the telly for the hell of it!

All very good points. Haven't read the full article yet... will do later. Gotta get tea on ;-)

You know, Star, you could have just written "Bev, you're a loser." It would have been so much quicker... :p
