I don't usually like to talk politics or religion - well, I do, but usually only among people who I know to be open-minded or that I don't care if they stay friends or not ;-)  But I feel pretty safe tonight because this only involves my own state of Minnesota and the senate race. So, first we have rhe incumbent, Norm Coleman, who's been called a sleazeball on more than one occasion, and has a few investigations trailing him around. Then we have his opponent,  Al Franken, a comedian/political commentator/author, who probably has said a few things in his routines and books that have offended some people. Since he's a comedian, one expects that.

So anyway, I voted for Franken basically for the same reason I voted for Obama - anything that stank of Bush I wanted out of office.

The outcome still isn't decided. Franken and Coleman each received 42% of the vote, with a third party candidate getting 15%. Enough said for my concerns about 3rd party candidates who haven't a snowball's chance in hell of winning. At this point in time, with adjusted totals still coming in, Coleman has about 400 more votes than Franken.

Four HUNDRED.

Out of just under three MILLION.

And Coleman has declared himself the winner. It's not official, of course, but that's the hutzpah of this idiot. The typical conceit of the Bush administration and his sheep.

Makes me doubly glad I didn't vote for him. And I hope to hell the recount shoves his double-dealing, bribe-taking ass out of office.

And at the same time, I have to wonder why the race was that close. Other than the outrageous lies that Coleman's campaign put out that, apparently, so many Minnesotans were stupid enough to believe. But then, we put Jesse Ventura in the governor's office...

The arrogance! With the result still so finely balanced anyone declaring vistory like that is just tempting fate. What's that stuff about pride going before a fall. Fingers crossed he gets his comeuppance.

Hey, I've heard of Al Franken! I must have seen him on TV or something.

Yeah, Al Franken has been around for some time, and is not only a funny comedian, but a very caustic commenter on politics. And to be able to be truly funny about politics, you have to understand how the system works. And from what I've seen, he's a pretty nice guy anyway.

That's what I'm hoping - but they're saying it could possibly take a month to get it all sorted out :-(

My hubby has a lot of Al Franken's books, though I've yet to read them myself. He didn't mention Franken running for office, I must tell him. My God, something about American politics that he doesn't know! lol We sat up to watch the elections the other night and I felt like a four year old asking about electoral college votes, popular vote, blah blah... I think I understood it by the time I went to bed. :)

And may I please give you an enormous hug for voting for Obama and doing your bit to rid the USA and the world of the village idiot currently residing in the Whitehouse. I thank you, my husband thanks you, the world thanks you. :)

I've read so many comments from people in other countries that are so happy Obama won. It's amazing. Humbling, actually, to realize that people in other places were so much more aware of the idiocy than many Americans. Objectivity, I guess.

Now... if only he can live up to expectations. Or even come close.

My personal belief is he can't be any worse! I just can't imagine him making as many enormous mistakes as the previous administration. I don't believe he will be a messiah, but for a politician he seems reasonably grounded and anyone who is running a country based on their political values rather than their religious ones cannot be all bad. :)

Latest results are showing that Coleman has dropped from just over 400 votes ahead to 239 votes ahead. Now for the kicker -

After announcing his "win" the other day, Coleman called on Franken to allow the results to stand without a recount, to 'move on'. NOW he's suddenly requesting access to voting records because the change in count is going for Franken, complaining of "statistically dubious and improbable shifts that are overwhelmingly accruing to the benefit of Al Franken." HELLO! That's why we have recounts - to make sure the count is *corrected* and *accurate*. So idiots don't claim to be the winner when they may not be...

If that ain't Republican logic, I don't know what is.
