Doldrums

Have been trying, unsuccessfully, to get the next chapter written, but having great difficulties with concentration. Not for lack of enthusiasm, certainly. I think it's just that I'm still trying to get my body clock used to the graveyard shift; I have AADD and the more tired I get the harder it is to "settle down" to accomplish anything, let alone write scenes that have to work together *and* lead logically to the next set of events. I was hoping to get down and dirty this weekend, just start writing and keep going, but now it looks like we have to work 10 hours Friday night and 8 again on Saturday night, and then the regular work week starts all over again. :-(  But I am determined to set aside a specific time each day and do nothing else. Even if I only stare at the computer ;-)

And of course, the weather is doing its usual crappy thing. Supposed to get up to 4 inches of snow tonight, 1 tomorrow, 1-2 again Saturday. With winds 10-20 mph. Which is shitty enough, but then having to drive to work in it as well...I think I'm just damn good and ready for spring. Anything but cold and snow.

Oh, I so want to get this writing going! I have the scenes all planned out in my head, and just have to write them down and fill them out. It's just maddening not to be able to get my damn concentration going along with it...

It'll come to you...I'm sitting here patiently waiting for the next instalment - just as long as you don't make me wait so long as Tess!!!!

If it's any help, I might be quiet over the weekend...so you won't feel distracted by Amy ;o) Bad girl!!!

I sometimes get this resistance to starting, even when I have something all planned out. Often it's near the end, and I'm getting nervous that I won't pull it off.

My concentration is bad too. Usually once I get started I can keep going, but it's the getting started.

Sometimes I'll go and answer a discussion topic or something similar, or a few emails to get me into writing and typing mode, and then hopefully I'll segue into the story writing!

And now I'm procrastinating getting started on my website updating, better go.

P.S. our weather here is pretty rubbish too, all windy and changeable.

Gosh, Ican't believe you get that feeling, too. I thought it was only us mere mortals!

I usually don't have any problem getting started - it's sticking to it. Sometimes my mind goes wandering after a page, sometimes after the first sentence. I have to find something to concentrate "against" - when I was in high school I used to have the TV or the stereo on while I did my homework, and then I *had* to focus on the homework. But now I don't even hear the TV half the time...my brother says I should be on Ritalin or something like that, but that stuff scares the bejeebers out of me - don't want to walk around like a zombie. Besides, I think that's just for the hyper-activity thing, which is definitely not *my* problem...

Well, I may not go to work tonight anyway - it was nasty driving home this morning and we only got a couple inches of snow - we're due for another 4-6 inches today and tonight, and my little rear-wheel drive pickup just won't handle that, poor baby. So we shall see...

You and that damn Tess! :D

I promise - I will definitely not put Covenant on hold like that - I'm taking my notebook to work from now on, because it's been so slow and I'm tired of sending myself email notes...maybe writing little bits and pieces throughout the night will work. ;-)

Good to hear!!! I don't think I could cope with that AND Tess! ;O)

Messing up two endings in a row last year brought me down to earth with a bump. A bit like that ancient king, who had a slave whose job it was to follow him around whispering "remember, you are mortal" into his ear all the time. Including on the battlefield! We all need that sometimes.

Ugh, stay off those dangerous roads! It's not worth the risk.

Yeah, especially after last night. Rain mixed with snow, coming down heavy, and about 4 miles from work - Disaster! The wiper blade on the driver's side just kinda flew off into the netherworld. So the only way I can see is by keeping my speed up and letting the wind blow the rain and snow off the windshield.

Why me, Lord? Why me?

Weather update: hail! Completely unnacceptable.

You definitely can't go out in the snow with no wiper on the driver's side!

No, I replaced it this morning after work. Drove to the store (same scenario as last night) about a mile away (right past the highway patrol office - gad) and stood out in the rain/snow/wind putting the damn thing on. Had to do that - 30 mile drive home would've been a little difficult otherwise ;-)

It wasn't noticeable to us readers - I can't even remember what you cocked up!

It sounds daft, but I even write the ending first ;O) It'll get tweaked as the story goes on - although I might not need to for A Beautiful Lie. I just hope you guys like it ;O)
