Wild weekend
May. 25th, 2008 11:44 pmWell, I'm discovering (or rediscovering) that I'm much more at home working outside than in. Yesterday I was clearing rocks from a defunct pond. Today I made my very first attempt at baking bread...let's just say, the two had much more in common than might first be apparent. My brother, bless his intrepid little soul, did actually eat several slices of my creation. And I admit, once one managed to break through the crust, it wasn't bad. Really. But I must admit, although I enjoy being in the kitchen more than I used to - I'd much rather wield my chainsaw than my rolling pin...
But I do like the recipe I used for the bread - it's "kneadless". You mix all the ingredients and then let it set for 8-18 hours to raise, then roll it into a ball, let it raise a couple more hours, then put it in a big covered kettle in the oven - comes out (I guess) like European style bread. And it did taste good. I just need to figure out a different temperature, and some kind of basting for when it comes out of the oven so the crust doesn't get so hard. (And it was definitely hard - I practically had to resort to the proverbial chainsaw to get it open. Good grief.) But inside was moist and soft and tasted like TA DA! - real bread!
So, baked bread, cleared rocks, trimmed the hedge, started plotting out the garden I'm revamping...tomorrow it's the cemetery run. And some progress made on Covenant. Damn. It's just the wrong time of year for writing, unless I stay up until the middle of the night...
Oh! And left a present for Billy on the Is Face Sexy thread... ;-)
