More random thoughts on writing etc
Dec. 14th, 2007 12:00 pmI was over at my other blog site (It's Just Me), and thinking about work, and the next thing you know, I have a huge post finished. I have a feeling that site will be for my more philosophical side. This is more a nuts and bolts kinda place ;-)
I finished adjusting Chapter Six of Covenant, so after I think about them for a couple more days, I'll have both six and seven ready to publish. I think I'm going to try to build that habit - finish editing and then sit on it for a couple days, then reread it "fresh" as it were, before posting it as a final. I got in too big a hurry with "The Children's Hour" - partly because I was working on a self-imposed deadline of Halloween-ish, and partly because it was the first real story of any length I'd written for several months, and I think that made me a little too anxious to proclaim to the world that I could still do it. Big mistake. Chalk up another lesson learned ;-)
I'm about half-way through Chapter Eight now, already have a couple areas in bold to go back and work on, and a bunch of notes to myself at the bottom. I try to set a certain length for each chapter, which is why I say this one is half done. But then I look at the notes, and I just know that either this will be a longer chapter than most, or I'll end up writing Chapter Nine as well. But that's all right - I usually start a chapter and then let it go where it will. Sometimes it works, sometimes I have to rein it in, and sometimes it amazes me with its brilliance. LOL
