Work...

I'm not sure this new job is going to last until I have my "drop dead money" saved. Well, the job will - I'm not sure I will.

Those of you who know me know that I freeze very easily. I mean, during the winter, I walk around the heated house with a coat on; if I put shorts on at all during the summer, it's only because the temps have gotten over 100 (Fahrenheit). So here I am - working in the frozen foods department, stocking the freezers...

Yeah. I have to dig out my gloves before Friday - I had to take a couple breaks and use the hot air dryer in the bathroom to get any feeling back in my fingers. Does Walmart supply gloves? Hell no...

And then there was the unexpected problem - I'm doing all the things that aggravate my upper back problems as well as my knee problems. So on the way home, my knees are screaming every time I had to shift gears, and my back was actually spasming.

So I'm thinking, thank God it looks like I'll only be working 2 days, then a day or two off, then two days, etc. I don't think I could last a week if it were four days in a row.

Are you going to be in the freezers all the time? Can you suggest that because of various problems, could you work somewhere else?

We've got a big michelin man style jacket (only in blue) to wear to put stock into the freezer... and even then we're not in there for that long. I'm in and out of the freezer when I do the bake-off on a Saturday morning, and I do know what you mean about cold hands - and I'm just in there to grab the next box I need. I don't hang about.

They really should supply special gloves if you're in there for long periods of time though... that's a bit naughty.

Well, this wasn't working in the freezer itself (that's a joy I haven't had yet - stocking the overflow in there :p). But frozen foods is 3 aisles of stand-up coolers/freezers - to stock them we have to stand with the door open and move stuff around - like standing over the home freezer and moving things around for 8 hours.

I don't dare ask to go to a different department yet - my problems aren't considered disabilities so they'd just say "Take it or leave it".

Ah, yes, that is still cold, restocking the freezers :-( I tend to wear my uniform 'coat' when I have to do that. Then I get called to the till and start to boil lol!

Suck it and see, as they say ;-) Hopefully you'll get moved around and won't be always doing frozen. Maybe moan a little... in a sarcastic way... 'boy, don't you guys have anything warmer for me to do?' :-P

(you don't know how long it's taken me to post this).

Yeah, I'm just going to keep reminding myself of the rewards of sticking it out until I reach my monetary goal. Even if I have to do it from a prone position one day... LOL

They don't supply gloves? Geez, is frostbite just a hazard of the job or something?

Hope you move on to another section soon!

Yeah, I was a bit flabbergasted when the supervisor said, "You can buy gloves if you want to wear them. That's no problem." Huh? But then I had to buy my own navy blue shirt (required) as well. I'm almost surprised they haven't made me pay for my badge...

I think this is why I am often heard murmuring, "somebody put me back in the office."

(That's a slight Demolition Man reference)
