Finally!

Today was a really productive day. I finally found my way into the next chapter of Covenant - no more write, toss, write, toss - it started to flow together again. So am already about half-way through - and actually wishing "Lost" didn't come on tonight because I'd rather be working on my chapter! So the "I have to write something even if it's rubbish!" phase seems to have departed. Thank God! (And I'm skipping the first hour of "Lost" because it's just a repeat of last week's second hour and I didn't like it the first time around, soooo... )

And if anyone says again that writing for a "mere" fifteen minutes a day doesn't work - I will point to what happened to me today. I've found my two main characters for my original story and was trying to figure out how to set up the events (and ending) I want for them. I started going through all the little "meaningless" tidbits I'd written (and never, never throw those away!) and found it. Just sitting there waiting for these two to pop into it. When I wrote it, it was just meandering, and only a paragraph - but it's perfect for these two characters. So in and of itself, worthless. But it was one of my fifteen minute "duty calls" and now it's ready to be a story. So - WRITE EVERY DAY PEOPLE! One day one of those snippets could come in very very handy.

So - a good way through the next chapter of my fanfic, and a good starting point for my original short story for the contest - definitely a productive day.

Now, if I could just say the same about the housework...

Woohoo! Can't wait to see the next bit of Covenant.

I'm doing a 15 minute a day brainstorm on a particular project just now, but think I'll keep it going throughout the whole time I'm editing the novel, either brainstorming or a bit of writing, because otherwise I tend to get a bit dull-brained when concentrating on editing.

You know, I think the writing every day - even if it's only 15 minutes and even if it's "junk" - really does keep you sharp. It's all stimulating the brain, but in a creative direction versus "practical" thinking. Same thing with reading - it makes the "right brain" work a bit ;-)

Definitely. I've found that I'm in very different mental states when I'm planning or drafting something and when I'm editing it, so trying to have some kind of drafting going on most of the time is very useful. It just gets me thinking in a different way.

It's funny, but I try not to delete anything now, save a new version, or I'll have documents containing random scenes... because you never know when you might need them back.

I agree with the 15 mins a day... don't always get to do it at the moment. But I think I'm always doing something writing related, roughly each day.

Maybe 15 mins a day rule should apply to the housework... :-P I have the same problem there too.

You know, I used to do that when my son was little. Instead of a massive cleaning once a week, every day I'd spend a few minutes on one room, dusting, vacuuming, straightening. Always had a clean house back then. :p Now it's like, what - the animals are going to complain about a little dust? LOL

yeah - I try to do bits each day... just not so good at the dusting lol!

But 15 minutes .... hmmm... maybe I should apply that, and my house might seem in better order lol!
