ostarella: (Awake)

My brother didn't come down this weekend as he's house-sitting for some friends, so I'm here by meself. For some reason - maybe because of 40 years of working - weekends still seem different than the rest of the week, even though there's nothing really different in my routine. They just seem different.

Been pushing some ideas around for an original short story. There's a nifty little contest with a mid-March deadline. Fifty page max, $1500 prize. But it's amazing how hard it is to think up workable ideas when you don't have the characters in mind already. I may have to work up a list of interesting characters and just keep them on file so I could pull a couple and write a story about them doing something. LOL The neat thing about contests is that many are via "literary magazines", so while learning about the contest, you find out what their 'normal' submission guidelines/payments are as well. So those go into yet another file for perusal.

Fang is giving me conniptions. She knows she's not supposed to be on the dining room table, but it's now become a game with her. "How long can I be on here before Mom sees me?" All I have to do is look at her up there and she's bounding to the floor - so she definitely knows, the little bugger. She's also discovered a new pre-bedtime game. Petey always sleeps curled up in front of me, and Fang behind my knees (yeah, the two dogs, the cat, and me, all on the couch - it's a pack thing LOL). So now she's discovered that Petey's ear just peaks up over my thigh - so she spends quite some time pouncing on it from her "hiding place" before finally settling down for the night. Needless to say, neither Petey nor I are thrilled with this newest pursuit of hers.

Oh, and I got her to stand on the scale the other day. The needle was exactly between two and three pounds. And since I think she's probably 8-9 months old now, I doubt she's going to grow much more. But that's okay, too. I like her little :p I'm most thankful that she's retaining her kitten face - so many cats their face flattens out as they mature, and I've never liked that.

Well, that's about all my meager thoughts this morning. Some housework today, starting to inventory the house and pack stuff away. And writing - I've been doing a lot of "Oh this sounds good... well, not that good... actually that's awful... start over..." Too many scattered projects, I guess. Gotta settle myself down and concentrate on one at a time - at least on a day-to-day basis.

Okay - off to work :D

Heh, is Fang at a cat version of that phase where kids are testing what they can get away with? I can't believe you actually got her to stay on the scale by herself. Did you drug her? :D I thought to weigh a cat you had to weigh yourelf while carrying the cat, and then alone, and subract the difference.

I was surprised she stayed on the scale, too - but then she noticed immediately that the needle moved, so she had to investigate that, of course. It was during one of those checks that I got her weight. LOL

I love that she's so young and playful. lol! The slightest thing to move and they are on it! Shoes can be the funniest. Chloe has really lost that now, being around 13 years old. They don't lose it for a long time though. And even now she occasionally has her mad moments. But they're a lot rarer now :-(

She's definitely playful now - it's her timing that's off. Her racecourse between upstairs and downstairs gets the most usage between 2 and 3 in the MORNING!. How something that tiny can make so much noise - you'd think I had a herd of elephants racing through the house...

ah yes, I remember that, too, with our cat lol! I don't know why we put up with the waking us up at 4am for food. That soon stopped when I had my first son. We started locking her in the kitchen... why we hadn't done that before, I will never know!

I managed to weigh my cat - once!

Oh yes, our cat knows she shouldn't be on the kitchen top. Or actually upstairs... though now the stair gate has gone, she's trying her luck, usually hiding under Kieran's bed!

Well, that's cats. That they know they shouldn't doesn't mean they won't. They still do what they want, with the utmost grace and ignorance :D And in the end they are so cute that you can't even be mad at them...

Oh, I know - in the end I'm the one feeling guilty for getting after her! Gawd...
