I didn't think I was going to like that because I'm a slash fan but... it kind of describes the things that suck about fanfiction in general. Like... even if it's gen or het or whatever... if you're not going to bother writing characters that act/react in the way that I think they would/should I'm not going to enjoy reading it at all. But, yeah, slash fic is probably the worst for all that especially in this fandom =/
Well, that's the whole thing about slash for me. I enjoy slash stories - but it is sooooo hard to find any that actually use the characters from the show. Slash shouldn't be any different from other stories - you take the characters and put them in a new situation and see what happens. And regardless of whether it's slash or gen, authors still need to pay attention to characterization, plot, structure... Unfortunately, while there are some gen authors who haven't figured that out, the whole slash "arena" seems to have that problem. I don't want to see a female masquerading as Face, for example. I don't want to see SF vets calling each other Sunshine and Baby. That's just... dumb. And that's why finding a well-written slash story is like finding gold in the backyard - OMG! A keeper!!!
oh read it. I like. It was kinda her rant, in a very well structured way :D And sooo true. The reason why we do it is because we love it.
And bit like my "argument" Over There... why would you not want to improve your writing. Even if you're doing it for fun, you must want to get it right... So if someone gives out some pointers in the right direction, you should use them, not toss them aside and consider it that the commenter "hates" fanfic. The fact that she's taken the time to comment, shows she is probably very passionate about it.
I liked. Made me late for breakfast... but I liked ;-)
