Just came in from listening to the local marching band practice. The town's having "Wilder Days" this coming week - Laura Ingalls Wilder apparently lived here for a few months, so...   But I love listening to the band. Especially the drummers. Drummers are definitely a different breed. I was in the band from fifth grade through my first year of college; so was my brother. I played trombone, he played drums. I wanted to be a drummer as well, but he put the kibosh on that.   But I love it when the director gives them free reign - my brother was excellent and the director never even gave him sheet music - just told him to "take it". He always did. Still jams at a couple of the clubs up in the Cities.

But there's something about drums... .The Native Americans, contrary to popular belief, use the drums as a symbol of the heartbeat of Mother Earth; it's used as a means of keeping things in balance, of moving into a spiritual state. And though the purpose is quite different in a marching band, there's still that...feeling, a "quiet excitement". At least for me.

Sooo. Back to real life. Have been trying to get the new system to work on my pc - so I can copy from my VCR to DVD. Everything worked fine (well, after I dug some styrofoam chips out of the inside of the VCR ) but the pc wasn't recognizing the capture device. So after tearing my hair out all day (do you realize how hard it is to find tech support that speaks like normal people? ) it was finally suggested that I need to move the card to another PCI slot. So, since I'm now too busy to tear my pc apart yet tonight, tomorrow morning that's first on my list. And then - hopefully - I'll have all kinds of neat screen caps to put up on various sites. Like from Dirk's jazz band performance, and the wild west show he appeared in (on TV), and some of the other tapes I have that don't get much "show" on the 'net.

So - now off to work on Covenant. Finally getting a real handle on it again - and this time I'm backing it up every few minutes. No more lost "genius"
