"Small" job for today...
Jul. 22nd, 2008 12:34 amWell, got to work today and a couple hours later my brother emailed me from our house; said a "large" branch had come down while I was getting ready for work but he hadn't had a chance to tell me (as I was flying kinda low getting ready to leave). I had heard a crashing noise but didn't think anything of it - duh! Anyway, he suggested I cut it up tomorrow before going to work (he knows I refuse to let him anywhere near my chainsaws - don't need a one-legged brother
). So I figured, okay, no problem.
Tonight I got home about midnight and took the flashlight out to check the "large" branch - it is HUGE!
If anyone had been under it when it fell, I'd be planning a funeral. Where it broke off is over a foot thick, and the part that actually hit the ground is maybe twelve feet long. That's the part that actually broke off. The part that's still hanging is maybe 8-10 inches thick (where it's still connected) and hangs down from a height of maybe 20-25 feet - and it touches the ground.
And that doesn't count the myriad branches *on* that branch. So I'll be cutting away what I can reach with my extension pole, and hoping the damn thing doesn't break off and come down on top of me. And then cutting up what amounts to a 35 foot tree.
I've spent so much time cutting up trees this year, I'm beginning to feel like Edward Scissorhands - only with chainsaws...
(I'll try to post a couple pictures after the sun comes up - if I haven't decided to just run away from home by then...)
