Misc stuff

Just uploaded the latest for the Directory (shadowwalker.info/archives_updates.html It's getting a bit cumbersome, since there are sooooo many (not just new stories, but updates to WIPs, new links, etc). I really need to figure out a site search engine, too, but everything seems so complicated. Any suggestions welcome.
My brother is up in the Cities again today. He goes up once a week or so, to do lawyer-type stuff, and then goes to his darkroom for a few hours. I have to admit, I like those days. Nothing against Bro, but it does give me a little breather from people. After living alone for so long, having another body constantly around ups the stress levels. So I'm getting a few odds and ends taken care of that aren't easily done when he's around.
Having to keep a closer eye on Fang now. Don't know if I mentioned this before, but she got out a couple weeks ago. We usually left the backdoor unlocked when Petey went out to do his thing (so he could bang it open when he was ready to come in) and then just closed the kitchen door so Fang wouldn't get out there. Unfortunately, she found an alternate route and ended up sleeping in the toolhouse overnight. Just lucky she remembered her old haunts. :p I didn't realize she was missing because she's typically sleeping up in Bro's room when I go to work, so it wasn't until she didn't show up when I got home that I got worried. Boy, she came bouncing down from the rafters when I went out looking for her, very loudly chastising me for leaving her out all night.
She's not going to be a very big cat, though. Shoulders to butt she's not quite 11", and still weighs less than 5 pounds. She's about two now, so I figure that's as big as she'll ever get. Petey is my "Big Baby" and Fang is my "Tiny Baby". Yeah, I'm allowed to get mushy about the animals, so there! :p
Have been having the strangest dreams lately. One was my dad and I hunting down and killing these HUGE spiders and centipedes; another involved my dad and I trying to build something, but I can't remember all the details. Yet another I slammed sideways into a semi-trailer with my truck, flattening it like a pancake, and then trying to call my dad so I could get to work. Probably a combination of stress and my dad's death anniversary coming up. I've been doing way too much thinking about that.
We have a ton of birds in the yard now. My brother's seriously concerned about the amount of birdseed they're going through! LOL Goldfinches, purple finches, cardinals, bluejays, purple grackles, crows, indigo buntings, grosbeaks, catbirds, mourning doves, a trio of Baltimore Orioles the last couple of days, several different kinds of sparrows - and yesterday, a hawk, sitting in one of our maple trees! Never saw that before. Can't hear yourself think outside for all the singing :D
Anyway... hoping to get to a con the end of July, to see DB again. My son can't make it home for his birthday this year (due to the new job - which he's doing very well at, and is already in line for a promotion!) so I feel like I need something nice happening. Maybe I'll take a couple extra days and take a long route home after. I think part of my ongoing dissatisfaction/depression is just the fact I haven't been able to let my wanderlust take over. I just wasn't meant to stay in one place for long. I need a home port, not an anchor holding me in place.

Date: 2011-05-09 09:55 pm (UTC)You're a wanderer, I'm a homebody. It was nice to go see people at Easter, but it nice to come home to my little castle too. But get that convention in your calendar, so you can start marking off the days. And definitely take a long way home. Good plan!
