Mixed blessings

No one's probably noticed :p but I lost my internet for a couple days - thanks to that "harmless" virus I got via YIM. Yeah, my computer now has something "whacko" inside (those were the tech's words, not mine!) and it won't let me onto the internet. Nor will it let me open on safe mode to make any of the corrections I would need to make. Since it would cost an arm and a leg to fix the problem, and since there were other things starting to go wonky on the thing due to old age, I now have a new eMachine. Which isn't really what I wanted to spend my money on right now - but now the really good thing...

My son is paying for it :D  I was telling him why we couldn't do our "Lost" discussion last night, and he said, "well, I wanted to get you a computer for xmas, but what I wanted to get you was too expensive." Read that as the computer he thinks I should have (with all the bells and whistles and then sugar on top). But this one was only $300 so... late Christmas present. :D

Of course, it does mean putting all my files on disk so I can move them from the old pc to this new one, and scanning each disk first to make sure there's nothing trying to sneak past and fuck up the new one.

In the meantime, time to play around and figure out what this new doohickey is and what that whatchamcallit does...
