American Idol rant

Does anyone else wish those two broads, Paula and Kara, would just shut up? I mean, unless the contestant is absolutely God-awful, they're sugary sweet to everyone and frankly, they encourage people who shouldn't be. And I'm getting very, very tired of the way they try to shut down both Simon and Randy. Now, granted Simon isn't the most diplomatic - but I like him. I like the fact that he doesn't pull punches - frankly, the people he gets snarky with deserve it. But even when he or Randy like someone and try to give suggestions or constructive criticism, the two broads get on their high-horse and act like *no* criticisms should be voiced. My God - do they think that's helpful? What morons. Paula's been bad enough in the past, but now with Kara there to back up her lack of backbone - man! Talk about wanting to bitch slap...

There is a slight difference with fanfic, with hard work you can become a better writer. For some, you just can't sing. You can learn to sing better... but Simon is looking for something special. Singing is definitely a gift (well IMO), where as like your article says, everyone can get creative - just gotta work at it :D

Point taken - although, if you can't sing at all, you shouldn't be going on these auditions ;-) (Which is probably why Simon gets so grouchy after a while.) Then again, with hard work, you can become a *better* singer or writer - but not necessarily a good one.

Yes, I agree... but I think you have more chance at becoming a better writer than you do a singer (if that makes sense). I suppose you can always teach someone to sing (as long as they're not tone deaf) but at the level Simon's looking for, you've got to have that Extra... whereas with writing, there are better writers than others (especially from a story telling pov) but we can all improve in our writing ability (getting the grammar right etc.)
