American Idol rant

Does anyone else wish those two broads, Paula and Kara, would just shut up? I mean, unless the contestant is absolutely God-awful, they're sugary sweet to everyone and frankly, they encourage people who shouldn't be. And I'm getting very, very tired of the way they try to shut down both Simon and Randy. Now, granted Simon isn't the most diplomatic - but I like him. I like the fact that he doesn't pull punches - frankly, the people he gets snarky with deserve it. But even when he or Randy like someone and try to give suggestions or constructive criticism, the two broads get on their high-horse and act like *no* criticisms should be voiced. My God - do they think that's helpful? What morons. Paula's been bad enough in the past, but now with Kara there to back up her lack of backbone - man! Talk about wanting to bitch slap...

Soooo

Choosing NCIS over this was the right choice. Nice to know.
Because OMG Paula . . I feel embarrassed for her sometimes. To thinks she's actually gotten someone on there who makes it worse is awful 0.o

You know, take out "American" Idol, substitute the names and suddenly you're talking about fanfic and feedback. :D

I think you should email Simon and ask him if he'd like to be a Mad Beta. :D

I agree completely. I don't think Simon always gets it right, but at the same time he doesn't give false hope to people who have no business being in that audition room.

There was a guy on last week (not sure how far behind we are) and he was painted as the proverbial geek. He had a very strange voice, but I really liked him as did Randy. Simon hated him, but there was something about him that definitely got my attention. Looking forward to hearing that one again. :)

I have to admit, I have a tendency to quit watching after the auditions. I watch for the sadistic value - kinda like lousyfic ;-) But yeah, these two broads are taking away even that fun.

Very much like fanfic - the only difference being, of course, that with fanfic, the writers who have no business picking up a pen (so to speak) do anyway. The lousy singers claim their family and friends love their singing - the lousy writers point to their "fans", who just happen to be equally lousy writers. And Paula and Kara are like the readers who *love* every story no matter how crappy the writing. God...

Then watch the reactions of the rejected ones after the audition - soooo like fanfic! Completely disregard anything that's been said, stubborn determination not to change the way they sing (write) because "those guys don't know what they're talking about" (meaning it would require effort to improve), yada yada yada.

Maybe I just empathize with Simon too much... :p

This is one reason I don't really like watching X Factor. Simon Cowell gets on my nerves, but at the same time, he's cruel to be kind.

I like watching the behind the scenes too... those people who think they can sing but can't. Simon's face is usually a picture :D

lol! Jfm is right :D

Yeah, Simon is one of those people who obviously does not suffer fools gladly and isn't afraid to express that. ;-) Then you get these people that keep singing or start pleading - like that's going to make them better singers? They're not going to improve by doing the same thing over or by begging for approval. Again - just like fanfic! You have to learn, practice, change. Otherwise you're just pumping out more and more drivel.

There is a slight difference with fanfic, with hard work you can become a better writer. For some, you just can't sing. You can learn to sing better... but Simon is looking for something special. Singing is definitely a gift (well IMO), where as like your article says, everyone can get creative - just gotta work at it :D

Point taken - although, if you can't sing at all, you shouldn't be going on these auditions ;-) (Which is probably why Simon gets so grouchy after a while.) Then again, with hard work, you can become a *better* singer or writer - but not necessarily a good one.

Yes, I agree... but I think you have more chance at becoming a better writer than you do a singer (if that makes sense). I suppose you can always teach someone to sing (as long as they're not tone deaf) but at the level Simon's looking for, you've got to have that Extra... whereas with writing, there are better writers than others (especially from a story telling pov) but we can all improve in our writing ability (getting the grammar right etc.)
