American Idol quasi-rant

Don't know how many watch this, but I've quit. Last week, one of *the* most talented of the group was voted out, and another contestant, who has shown over and over that he doesn't really care that much was kept in. Obviously their voting methods have once again proven to be a case of "popularity" over talent. I really had high hopes for this year, thinking it might actually maintain its integrity as it did last year - but not to be. Granted, there are still a couple of really, really talented people on there, but I can pretty much know who's going to win - and he's not as good as a couple others. But he's young and cute, so...

Oh well. Last year was the first year I'd managed to watch the whole thing to the end. Usually I just watch the first few weeks, until the really awful ones are voted off. Up to that point, it's funny. Last year they actually kept the talented ones right up to the last. Oh well - more time to work on important things - like writing and ranting. :D

Ugh, that's the trouble with those shows, they turn into a popularity contest, not a talent contest. If they want to end up with soneone who's the best singer, they should do the show on the radio, and keep the contestant's faces out of the media until the end.

British TV is full of these kind of shows at the moment and I can't stand it. I can't stand most TV, it's so trivial and dumbed down. What happened to the idea of y'know, drama and comedy? Of someone writing a script and getting some actors to tell us a story?

Heh, a rant in return. :D

Good point! Hey, more reality TV! More "Celebrity Hairdressers Dancing on Ice" hosted by John Barrowman! Then I can get some work done.

BBC, here's a hint, I only want to see John Barrowman in Dr Who or Torchwood, not on every bloody show on the telly! He'll be reading the news next.

Yeah - he seems to be on the telly ALOT lately. Maybe I suppose if he's not filming Torchwood, then he can do the presenting... but here's a thing, why doesn't he film something else?

Like a Torchwood Spin Off. Captain Jack: The Chippendale Years.

hubba hubba!

Why is it that John Barrowman is so god damn sexy and yet he's gay? Such a damn waste!!! I think he's got to be the most fanciable gay guy I know :D

It's one of the reasons I don't bother watching them anymore... I just find them soooo frustrating!

I just like watching the clips of the auditions of all the people who *think* they can sing and/or dance and really can't. And then get arsey when the judges tell them their crap - It's like a complete shock! You want to scream who told you, you were good? Your mum????

I should go on Pop Idol. I'm awesome. My mum told me. :D

I have a fantastic voice... in the shower... car...

It is funny at first - and soooo many contestants get on there, and cannot carry a tune in a bucket, or try to go "hard rock" and just literally screech - and every one of them says "But everyone *loves* my singing!" What's even funnier is when they show them after they've gotten the hook - swearing, crying, screaming, finger-waving. So on top of making fools of themselves with their "talent", they confirm it with the aftermath. :D

There's really nothing on American TV either - I like shows like The Closer and Ghost Whisperer - the starring character is either quirky but competent, or there's a ghost story element. But again - they are actually telling a story! But most of the time I just have the TV on for "voices in the background".
