The hell with it...

I've probably managed to get myself banned from Digital Spy. No big loss at this point, considering the place has been so thoroughly contaminated by one poster's vindictiveness. But I finally decided to call a spade a spade. Normally I try to ignore her, but when enough bricks hit you in the head, it's kinda hard to do.

But this whole forum rules thing bugs the hell out of me. Has for some time. How do you respond "politely" and "respectfully" to other members who choose not to post "politely" or "respectfully"? It's like fighting with both hands tied behind your back. I like the way ani handles it over DTD - if you let her know when someone pulls that shit, she comes down on them like a ton of bricks. The mods over at DS take forever to respond, if at all (in this case, *not* at all). So I figure if they don't care what she posts, I have the same rights.

The really sad part about this whole thing - well, actually, there are two. First, that friends and family of Dirk's have to see that kind of crap on the web, and second, that there are people out there ignorant of her whole pathetic issue who will believe what she says.

I went and found the thread and geez, what a knob that other poster is. She also clearly doesn't "get" what an Appreciation thread is defined by over there on DS either, even though it's right at the top of the page:
A place for fans of particular housemates to post constructive and positive messages.

Heck, she mustn't have been to any conventions on the UK. I'm not much for conventions myself, but from what I've heard, if you don't get completely blasted you're doing it wrong. :D

And heck, there are some acquaintances of mine, friends of friends kind of thing, that I've only met at parties etc. They've had a few drinks on those ocassions. Do I assume therefore that they are drunk every day? Of course not, that would be stupid.

If you get banned from Digital Spy I'll be massively impressed. That's like an internet badge of honour.

It's a huge forum over there of course. I suppose the mods have to prioritise the sub judicea and "libellous stuff that will get us sued" issues first. Hope they get your issue sorted and don't ban you!

Well, if I get banned under these circumstances, I'll definitely consider it an honor. :D

Well, it's been four or five days now - from what I understand, a *lot* of people complained about her post, so it would seem the mods are willing to let it fly. Frankly, if they're going to run a site that huge, they better make damn sure they have the personnel to cover it.

They should have t-shirts or at least badges: "I've been banned from Digital Spy."

I wonder how many mods they have over there. Are they proactive or reactive? Do they "patrol" or wait for someone to report a dodgy post. They must patrol, because the legal issues could be very troublesome if they leave something libellous up there too long.

[identity profile] ostarella.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'll add that to my LJ banner LOL

[identity profile] ostarella.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That's one reason why I'm puzzled at their lack of action here - her post was clearly defamatory - there are people who are going to believe it. But then these same mods allowed her back on the forum after an initial ban a little while ago, so who knows what their thinking is? If they're thinking at all...

Maybe Dirk isn't high profile enough for them. :(

Why does that person even still hang about in the Dirk fandom if she no longer likes Dirk? Can't she just leave it? Seems like such a waste of time. If I had a bad experience with or went off some celebrity for whatever reason I hope I'd have better things to do than hang around in places their fans congregate just to keep saying "this guy is actually not that cool, you know?" It would be like someone going off some sport they used to enjoy, but still going to matches and complaining loudly to everyone around them how boring the game is.

[identity profile] billy-shriner.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I know two wrongs don't make a right and all that... but sometimes they sure as hell make you feel better ;o) I shouldn't worry about it. Although it IS annoying when a *fan* takes it too far.

[identity profile] ostarella.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, unfortunately, this hatred for Dirk has become a way of life for her. It's like she has to try to turn everyone who likes Dirk to hating him as a means of vindicating her own feelings - or lack of viable life ;-)

[identity profile] ani-bester.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
DS from my understanding is like this huge thing and I suspect the mods have bigger fish to fry to be honest. Where as I have nothing better to do than release me wrath on people. =P Nor am I answerable to a corproation ^__^

Actually *blush* I better go check DTD. I hate to say this but I haven't had time to keep up with it as much as I should and was kinda relying on you and Tracy to report things if it got bad while I freaked out 6 ways to Sunday over my convention presentation ^^;;

But now hopefully I can get back to paying attention.

ON the behavior in question, man I have no comment other than I stopped trying to figure out stupid on the internet a LONG time ago. It's usually just people who want attention. I've seen friends of mine attacked like that (well I say attacke dlike that I've not been on DS in forever but I can take a good guess as the pattern changes not much at all) and it's just to make a name. You know attack the Big Name and people notice you and some people don't give a gosh darn of the attention is positive or negative.

What I don't understand is there's an entire other fandom that will quite gleefully agree with her when she bashes Dirk. So I don't know why she doesn't just go post to the other fandom and get positive attention.

I suspect she must just like aggrevating people -_-

Oh and yeah if yu get banned from DS I'll make you an icon to rpoudly display *LOL*

Because she's a fruit loop!

[identity profile] ostarella.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean, normally, if I do respond I *try* to stay well above her level. But I really felt like the guys must have in "Semi-Friendly Persuasion" - I tried to do it "their way" and it *just doesn't work*. So at least the "other side" is out there for as long as it lasts - enough people will see it so they won't just automatically take her word for things, at least.

[identity profile] ostarella.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow - an Ani Icon! Now I *really* hope I get banned! LOL

Well, look for more pictures posted on DTD by yours truly - DS will, alas, have to do without my contributions anon... ;-)

Weird. I just couldn't even get that worked up about someone I don't even actually know! If I were to go off Dirk (and he'd have to do something pretty bad for that to happen!) you wouldn't see me for dust! A distant echo of "So long, suckers" is all you'd get. And I'd still be in A-Team fandom anyway, since the character and the actor are not the same!

[identity profile] ostarella.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the broad definitely has a screw loose - probably more than one.

Well, I have to check out - back to the working world, dammit. Have to see if I can sneak onto the 'net during the slow spots - like all damn night! :-(

[identity profile] ani-bester.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You know I enver even could get on there. Not worth the hassel.

I hope the Mustache pic is still on ebay when I get home. I need to scar some more people and I need to scan that magazine clip . . a lot of 'em actually. :(

One thought though, to be fair I say ummm equally horrific things about Paris Hilton. But then I don't go to a group of Paris Hilton fans and say these things. It's interesting though because you bring up friends and family and I gotta say personally I never invisioned DTD for those types either. Heck, as positive as they are, I'd think the discussion of the ahhhh "assets" of some the pictures on DTD is not something and exaclty something I'd want friends and family to see. I can't even imagine running into a thread discussing the sexiness of my dad online *LOL*

I think Tracy covers the "person" side fine so, I'm going for celebrity like 99% of all other LJ communities. =P

But that doesn't mean anythig goes clearly!
Even I have my limits.
Which are crossed by tabloids on a daily baises -_-

See ya later. I have to do some writing anyway. The guys have a boat to catch.

[identity profile] billy-shriner.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
okay I've just read your response now (finally had the time).

I bow down to you :D I actually don't think you were that bad. I think you spoke of fact, truth - what we are all thinking. So give yourself a good pat on the back :D

And OMG if she thinks Dirk is an alcoholic - what does that make me? :P

Anyway, gosh - he's a star - he's supposed to have "lost weekends :D I reckon there are "stars" out there, losing more than weekends :P

He obviously takes Terry Pratchett's advice about the proper behaviour of convention guests:

I stroll along, talk, I sign books, people buy me drinks, I forget where my hotel is, I get lost and fall into some local body of water... done it hundreds of times. Going to a convention is fun!

[identity profile] billy-shriner.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Gosh, I've done all of the above, except sign books :D
beckyblack: (Default)

[personal profile] beckyblack 2008-07-15 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
You could just randomly sign any books that people happened to have about their person. :D

[identity profile] billy-shriner.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, you've just given me a drunken task / challenge bunny :D I go around, pretend I'm famous and sign anything and everything. If I've got the pen what can they do about it :D In Weston that would go down a storm !

I did make my friend collect phone numbers in a little black book on her hen night ::grins evilly:: the next morning reading the messages was hilarious :D oh those were the days... I've got two kids, I'm not allowed to behave like that any more ;o(
