What a week!

Well, got back from the airport about an hour ago (hour and a half drive one way) where I saw my son off for California and another six months before I get to see him again The week didn't turn out exactly as either of us had hoped/planned, as I ended up having to work second shift, so we had a few short hours in the morning and a couple when I got home from work about midnight But we had fun during those few hours, and I took Friday off and we just hung out and had fun. Next time he comes home, I don't care - I'm *not* working!

Tomorrow I start back on third shift for the rest of June, and then I go to second again for all of July. That normally doesn't happen, but one of the second-shifters is going on vacation for the whole month so I lucked out. Who can't use an extra four weeks pay, right? Especially when that means four *months* I don't have to work if I don't want to. The joys of living simply.

So now I have a lot of stuff to get caught up on - didn't do any writing this week, and a lot of garden/yard work got pushed off - but nothing that's going to cause the earth to stand still if it isn't done. And John installed a video capture card on my PC so I can put all my tapes (of certain movies/tv shows with a certain person starring ) on DVD. Another project on my list - one of the more enjoyable ones.

That tape to DVD project sounds fun for sure. Then you can do a screen cap project. :D

Plans never work out the way we expect, do they. But at least you got some time with your son.

Oh yes - lots of screencaps - like his duet with Marie Osmond, bits from "This Joint is Jumpin'", "W" - the ones we don't get to see much of ;-)

No, they sure don't. :-( But the time we did have, we got to have some really nice talks, less parent/child than adult/adult. Very nice. :)

Looking forward to those screen caps :D I really need to see if I've got software to do that... and if so, how. And if not, how do I get it - for Free?

Software for screencaps? If you've got a DVD player on your pc, it most likely has it somewhere (I only found mine when I spotted the little camera icon on the on-screen menu :D)

I will take a look, but I couldn't see a camera thingy on Windows Media

Yeah, I don't think you can with Media player. I use PowerDVD which I got years ago. If you google "DVD playback freeware "screen capture"", it comes up with a lot of choices of freeware for both dvd players w/screen capture and screen capture freeware. ;-)

okay - will check that out, when I'm allowed, and my house is decluttered, and I've got time in between writing ;O)

What a shame that you had to work last week! Isn't life mean sometimes? :(

But it's great that he managed to install that card, so we can look forward to lots of rare screencaps :) Actually it fits with your idea of not working for the next four months - because if there's something really time consuming it is video capturing ;) Screencapping from the DVD afterwards is the easy part... Have fun! :D

Definitely looking forward to "keeping an eye on things" as they get transferred. Nothing like a nice and easy viewing of The Man at work ;-)

'Nothing like a nice and easy viewing of The Man at work'

Now that is something I can wholeheartedly agree to :-)

BTW, I really like it that the DBC Smileys are working here on LJ. Very interesting, I didn't know they would, any other place than on DBC *is surprised*

Yeah, that is weird, in a nice way ;-) I may have to do my "drafts" over there from now on LOL
