Messenger virus?

My apologies to any and all who might get this via Yahoo messenger - a friend of mine sent me a link to a picture - not even realizing that YIM (or any other instant messenger) could contain viruses (stupidly thought they had better protection than emails) I clicked on it - my computer died, took me almost four hours just to get it to stay on long enough to do a spyware scan (now doing the virus scan) - there were three spyware thingies on my computer. :-(   So now I keep getting YIM and AIM popping up and pinging people (I finaly signed off both). Anyway, trying to figure out how to fix it now. Lesson learned.

I hate the internet sometimes...

Yuk, how awful! Hope you get it fixed. Meh, I never IM any more, Twitter is where it's at these days. :D

Well, supposedly facebook and myspace and other social networking places are expected to be hit hard by hackers this year, according to some of the bigger internet security organizations, so it seems nothing is as safe as we'd like any more. I'm probably going to delete my accounts at fb and ms anyway - I never use them myself, except to respond to friend requests LOL As little as I use these messenger things any more, I may just remove them from my computer completely. Would put a slight damper on my talks with my son, but our emails arrive almost as quickly anyway :p

I don't really us instant messenger as such now. I use Facebook one... my mum catches me online. But I don't use the Windows Live one or whatever it is anymore.
