Just what I needed...

What with JFM nagging everyone about NanoWriMo :p  I started thinking about it again. Like I don't have enough writing to get done - but it finally dawned on me that I've been wanting to write a fantasy story for ages (even before I got into fanfic) and my brother had given me a Sci-Fi book with a huge chapter on world-building for xmas, so...guess I know what I'll be fitting into my schedule for the next month. But world-building is kind of a neat thing, in and of itself. I may post a few things about that  along the way - see how it can (should?) fit into the fanfic world.

Gotta study the website, too - have no idea how this whole thing works, other than the writing itself, so hope it isn't overly complicated. Word counts, forums, groups, regions - argh. Sounds like a whole new world itself...I still haven't figured out LJ.  LOL

It's dead easy.. if I managed it in 2006 ;-) I basically had one document that I just wrote in, and the word count at the end of each day in it went into my profile. Just be warned... JFM gets competitive :D

I just linked to the one thread that was created for A-Team friends I think (Junkfoodmonkey created it me thinks if I remember rightly). I didn't bother straying off into other threads... that would haven't taken up my writing time.

AND I think, if you are planning to do this in November, you need to get your head down and get Covenant finished. Otherwise your "readers" will lose interest. Nothing worse than a good story, unfinished... sorry, I felt the need to nag ;-)

They've made updating your word count super easy this year. There's a little box at the top of the page to enter the current count your word processor gives you and click update. Not active right now of course. Try and get your total for the updated for midnight (your time) and then if keeps the little graph in your profile accurate. (I hated when I forgot to do that and looked like I had days I didn't write anything! But you know me, that kind of nonsense bothers me!

To get actual winner verification they'll have a page that becomes active on 25th November usually, where you copy and paste in your text, and it does a word count, and if it's more than 50 thousand you're declared a winner. If you have reached 50k a few days early it's always a good idea to go and get your winner status verified well before November the 30th, since there's always a big last minute rush. If you're still writing, you'll still be able to update word count even after you verify. Right up till the end of 30th of November.

Verifying is the only time you put your text on the site, and it's immediately deleted after the count, they don't store your work anywhere.

Those are the two main things to know! Everything else is just extras. :D

What's your ID on there? I'll add you as a buddy (then we can keep an eye on each other's word counts. Like Billy says, I'm competitive. ;-)
