Challenge/Exercise
When I first started writing, way waaaaay back in school, our English teacher had a picture book filled with news photos. Most were from the post-WWII era in Europe, and all were of people in various situations. We had to choose photos to use as inspiration for stories. I've looked for a similar book many, many times since, without luck, but today found a site that suits the purpose. Soooo...
I thought I'd post a weekly "challenge" - write a story (drabble, short, long, whatever) around the picture I post; the only caveat is that one (or more) of the guys has to be someone in the picture (and time frame/genders of the picture can be ignored). Nothing that needs to take a lot of time, but more to do a little pondering on character back stories.

Must be a British scene that one. That's a cricket bat leaning against the fence, and we're the only cricket players from a country cold enough to need coats like that. Unless it was a particuarly cold winter in Australia that year!
I'm getting a bunny about Face being the boy on the end who's talked someone into giving him a back to stand on, instead of a quarter inch of wood like the others have. :D

They do make one a bit notaslgic, though. Even with the war and all, I think kids had a much nicer time of it back then. The "evils" were so much easier to recognize and there was more family support to combat them...sigh...
