I should keep my mouth shut...

I should, but I just can't stand rudeness. It's where all my problems on the list emanated from, and now on another list...I just cannot deal with it. And everybody has an excuse for it. I don't care if the other person is rude first, (in this case, I think it just sounded that way because the person apparently doesn't speak English as their native tongue) it doesn't make it right to be rude in return. Not in public, at any rate. If people want to act like alley cats, do it in private.

Not saying, of course, that there isn't a time and a place to take the gloves off, but not right out of the gate. And you don't say something and then lock the gates so there can be no response or explanation.

Obviously I need to go back to working on my chapters and focus on that mess...

Yeah, I agreed with the general sentiment, but I personally would have been politer, since I'm not one for being confrontational anyway. I don't "do" arguments, I just withdraw.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with asking about downloads or where to find them. As I said, the main Shrine site had them - big deal that they didn't have them all up at once, they still had them. But my whole point was the rude response. There was no call for that. It's along the same line we talked about on DTD, about people not knowing how to debate online.

Life would be so much nicer for everyone if people talked to each other like they would their mothers. ;-) Or their ministers :D

A thought just struck me as I was watching a movie on TV - a movie I had taped several months ago. What's the difference between downloading something for free off the internet and taping it from the TV? Most movies on TV are available on DVD, so isn't taping them "stealing", as much as downloading it? I mean, really - how many of us have taped eps of TAT when it comes on? Isn't it the same thing, just a different medium? I don't mean to belabor the point, but it just seems odd that there should be such a hew and cry over downloading. ??

I do tend to dwell on things, don't I? ;)

Taping stuff off the TV has always been a slightly grey area legally anyway. I'm sure I've read that there's certain interpretations of the law that means it's legal to tape it and watch it once, since then you're only doing what you'd have done at the time it was broadcast. But that that's all you can do with it.

Who knows? This is one they'll probably make a final ruling on the day the last VCR rolls off the production line before vanishing into history.

A person could go buggy trying to figure out what's legal and what isn't. I don't really care who downloads what from where - eventually they'll do what we've all done - decided that either the price has gone down to where we can afford to buy, or we save up enough to buy. No one can tell me that the taped/downloaded or otherwise copied versions are as satisfying as "originals". What gets me are the people screaming the loudest are the ones that "used" to do it - now suddenly they're the guardians of the gates. But that's human nature, I guess. Ex-smokers are the same way LOL

A strange, strange world... ;-)

I think TV is slightly different, in that the broadcasters would have bought that *movie* or *series* for a fee. AND we over in the UK pay a licence fee, so I think that should at least allow us to tape something!

If you taped it and then sold it, I think they'd have an issue there!

oh DVD Writer...that's what we've got! Fantastic! We don't use the video anymore ;o) I get to see exactly what I've recorded on the disk, rather than searching through videos! Get one! Get one!

Ours provides our freeview too. It does have a video recorder too..but we don't use it!
