Well, even TAT wasn't exactly Top Hat and Tails as far as being deep or meaningful. But there were a lot more "love those guys" type of shows than nowadays. Like the BSG thing - the original was all hope and innocence, the new all dark and dreary. And there is a lot more sex and swearing and violence. Sometimes that's okay, but other times it seems like they just throw it in. Or that's the whole gist of the show. And don't even get me started on the 'strong females' BS!
I don't know. My take on TV and movies for the most part is that they're either so PC they bore you to tears, or they go so far the other way that it pulls you down, either into the gutter or into depression. :p
