Contemplating

You know those dust webs that form along the walls and ceilings? Not spider webs so much as the little filaments that float around and gather together and grow when you don't use the broom on the walls and ceilings...

I have several. Actually, since I haven't taken a broom around for... well, eons... I have a lot. I would glance up and decide that one of these days I needed to sweep them down, but they don't really hurt anything so the sense of urgency was never that great.

Saturday morning I came home from work and my brother was lying in wait, finger pointing to a corner of the dining room. I looked and there, festooning the corner like a Christmas garland, was a huge dust web that had, well, not fallen, but drifted down. The two ends were still connected to the ceiling but the middle - and it was a huge middle - hung down about eye level (8 foot ceilings, btw).

It's still there. I sit, contemplating its complexity and wondering how long it will be able to hang on, as more dust and filaments gather in the middle, how long will it waft gently in the breeze before a gust comes along that rends it from its perch.

So... yeah, that pretty much sums up my view on housework...

Thank god I'm not the only one! Some times I managed to get the hoover around the corners (use the arm bit... not the hoover lol!). But webs, dust seem to creep up on you...

I can't be doing with it all the time either.

Well, it's not like I have people coming to the house whose opinion I worry about. Anyone who comes here knows what I'm like... don't know if that's good or bad, actually. :p

Well, really you should go visit people, to see the people, not look at how they're keeping their house lol!

I'm of the same opinion, they've come to see me, not my house, and if they don't like it they know where they can go. I've got two kids, there are going to be toys lying around!

Yeah, next time the hoover is out I might point the long pipe bit up at the corners. Even run it around the picture rail, though that might be going a bit far...
