FFNet

Well, in case anyone's looking for my stuff on FFNet, it's gone. I tried to update some chapters and add the next chapter to Covenant and it totally screwed things up. So, rather than try to straighten it all out (which would mean going in and copying and then reformatting all kinds of chapters from Covenant), I just said the hell with it and took everything off. Left a note on my profile as to where people can find my stories, though.

Don't need hassles just to upload a simple chapter...

The last few days, I've been trying to keep track of the new stories on FFNet for both A-Team show and movie - and my God - it's maddening! I don't know if the slew of new writers haven't figured out the posting method, or if FFNet itself is having massive technical difficulties. First a story is listed, but click on it and it's not found - then later it's found, then disappears again, only to show up later - and sometimes with a whole new post date. Chapters don't show up on the drop down - but do if you click on "next" - or they just aren't there when they should be. And this is on both show and movie lists. Anyone finding this on other fanfic lists over there? It's just incredibly frustrating and confusing...

I've started leaving comments over on FFNet. I shouldn't. I really shouldn't. Because I leave honest comments. Like, get a beta reader! Of course, if I were really honest (and wanted to get booted from FFNet) I'd just put "WTF???" on some of these "stories". I mean, yeah, over there it's expected that the majority of stories will be poorly written, and that the authors will unerringly state that they're beginners - but my God. Even beginners ought to know how to use a spell checker; ought to know how to write dialogue so two or more characters aren't speaking in the same paragraph; ought to know that capitals aren't used for common nouns in the middle of a sentence. I generally try to be gentle with new writers as far as plotting and phrasing - but not basic grammar. And I mean basic. I'm starting to think schools don't even teach grammar any more - or that the majority of students are flunking it.

And why is it that the more atrocious the writing, the more "cutesy" these authors get in their notes? Or the more they break their arm patting themselves on the back? Do these idiots really believe their writing is that good? Yes! In fact, they seem to think it's the greatest thing since peanut butter found jelly.

So yeah - my patience has worn out. Call me crotchety, I don't care. If they're all that upset, they can bring it over to Beta Team and actually work on their writing.
